Mumbai: India captain Harmanpreet Kaur said the team is determined to make winning ICC trophies a regular habit ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026.
In a column released by the ICC for editorial use, Harmanpreet reflected on India’s historic triumph at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, calling it a defining moment for women’s cricket in the country.
According to the India skipper, preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup began immediately after the 2025 ODI World Cup victory. She said ICC tournaments always bring excitement, anticipation, and expectations, and added that the team’s preparation for the mega event has been excellent.
Harmanpreet stated that winning the Women’s World Cup 2025 was about more than lifting a trophy. She explained that the achievement inspired belief among young girls across India and proved that reaching the highest stage in world cricket is possible.
The Indian captain admitted the triumph gave the squad a huge confidence boost, but stressed that the team is not satisfied with just one major title. Harmanpreet said India now want to build a culture where winning World Cups becomes a habit.
She also acknowledged that expectations around the team have increased after the World Cup success. However, Harmanpreet described it as a positive kind of pressure, saying it reflects how the team has earned respect and now has the challenge of recreating that success again at future ICC events.
