CHENNAI: In a must-win clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Sunrisers Hyderabad kept their IPL 2026 playoff dreams alive with a thrilling five-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings on Monday, thanks to a match-winning knock from Ishan Kishan.
After being asked to bat first, CSK posted a competitive 180/7 in their 20 overs. Young South African batter Dewald Brevis led the charge with a brisk 44, while SRH skipper Pat Cummins starred with the ball, claiming three crucial wickets to keep the hosts in check.
Chasing 181, SRH suffered an early setback as openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma departed cheaply. However, Heinrich Klaasen counterattacked with a fiery 47 before Kishan took control of the chase.
Displaying composure and attacking flair, Kishan smashed 70 off 47 deliveries, anchoring the innings and guiding SRH home with an over to spare. His innings proved decisive as Hyderabad sealed an important win under pressure.
With the result, SRH officially booked their place in the IPL 2026 playoffs alongside Gujarat Titans, while CSK’s playoff hopes were left hanging by a thread after another disappointing defeat.
