DOHA : Hosts Qatar opened their men’s handball campaign at the 4th GCC Games Doha 2026 with a convincing 28-20 victory over the United Arab Emirates on Thursday.
Qatar produced a disciplined display at Al Duhail Sports Hall, taking control early and maintaining their lead throughout the contest to underline their status as one of the favourites for the gold medal.
The hosts combined solid defending with quick attacking transitions to secure a comfortable opening win and continue their strong tradition in regional handball competitions.
Qatar will next face Kuwait on Saturday in their second match of the tournament.
Elsewhere, Bahrain are due to take on Kuwait on Friday as the competition continues in Doha.
The GCC Games feature athletes from across the Gulf region competing in multiple sports hosted by Qatar.
