Delhi : Kyle Jamieson has admitted he felt unusual pressure facing 15-year-old sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi during an Indian Premier League 2026 clash between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals.
The New Zealand pacer dismissed the teenage opener early with a pinpoint yorker, providing a crucial breakthrough for Delhi. However, his aggressive celebration drew attention and led to a reprimand from the IPL governing body.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been so fearful of a 15-year-old kid in my life,” Jamieson said. “We had our plans going in, and it was nice that they paid off.”
Sooryavanshi, regarded as one of the brightest young prospects in the tournament, had been a key factor in Rajasthan’s strong starts this season alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Jamieson highlighted the importance of early wickets in the powerplay, noting that Delhi’s strategy was to break Rajasthan’s opening partnership quickly.
“For most teams, it’s their top two who give them fast starts. It was important to get them early and stem the flow,” he added.
Despite the early setback, Rajasthan recovered through contributions from Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel and Donovan Ferreira, posting a competitive total.
The incident, combined with Jamieson’s candid remarks, has added extra spotlight to the emergence of Sooryavanshi as a rising star in the IPL.
