MADRID : World No. 1 Jannik Sinner powered into the final of the Madrid Open with a commanding 6-2, 6-4 win over Arthur Fils on Friday.
Sinner will face Alexander Zverev, who defeated Alexander Blockx 6-2, 7-5 in the second semi-final.
The Italian extended his remarkable run, keeping alive his bid for a fifth consecutive ATP Masters 1000 title and recording his 27th win at that level. He has already claimed titles in Paris, Indian Wells, Miami Open and Monte Carlo Masters over the past year.
Sinner also joined Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal as only the fourth player to reach the final of all nine ATP Masters 1000 events—and the youngest to do so.
“Very happy about the general performance,” Sinner said. “I’m trying to play the best tennis I can at the moment.”
He dominated baseline exchanges and mixed in effective drop shots to hand Fils his first defeat on clay this season, sealing victory in 85 minutes.
In the second semi-final, Zverev—Madrid champion in 2018 and 2021—controlled the match against Blockx before breaking late in the second set to seal his place in the final.
“I’m very happy to be in a final,” Zverev said. “Jannik is the best player in the world right now, but I’ll try to give him a tough battle.”
The final will be played on Sunday, with Sinner chasing another milestone in his dominant run on the tour.
