DOHA: The Refereeing Department of the Qatar Football Association has published explanatory videos of the refereeing decisions that took place during Match Week 22 of Qatar Stars League for 2025/2026 season held on Monday.
This comes as part of its commitment to enhancing transparency and raising awareness of the Laws of the Game.
The (key) incidents were as follows:
- Al Sadd vs. Al Shamal:
In the 49th minute, the decision to award a direct free kick to Al Sadd and issue a red card to Al Shamal player No. 81 was correct. The player denied an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by clearly holding Al Sadd player No. 7. All criteria for the situation were met (general direction of play, distance to goal, likelihood of keeping or controlling the ball, and the position and number of defenders), in accordance with Law 12 (Fouls and Misconduct).In the 73rd minute, a goal for Al Sadd was disallowed after a VAR review due to an impactful offside by player No. 19, who interfered with the goalkeeper, in line with Law 11 (Offside).
In the 81st minute, a penalty was correctly awarded to Al Shamal after a VAR review due to a careless trip by Al Sadd player No. 13 against Al Shamal player No. 8 near the edge of the penalty area while the ball was in play. The challenge was classified as a foul involving careless use of force, punishable by a penalty under Law 12. - Al Ahli vs. Umm Salal:
A goal for Umm Salal in the 11th minute was disallowed after a VAR review because player No. 6 was in an offside position near the goalkeeper at the moment the goal was scored, interfering with the opponent and affecting the goalkeeper’s ability to save the ball. This decision was made in accordance with Law 11 (Offside). - Al Gharafa vs. Al Shahania:
The referee’s decision in the 54th minute to disallow a goal for Al Shahania was correct. A prior foul was awarded, and a yellow card was shown to player No. 11 for a reckless challenge after kicking Al Gharafa player No. 11 before the goal. This decision aligns with Law 12. - Qatar SC vs. Al Duhail:
In the 65th minute, the referee correctly awarded a direct free kick to Qatar SC and issued a red card to Al Duhail player No. 22 for denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity after a careless foul against Qatar player No. 6. All criteria were met (direction of play, distance to goal, likelihood of ball control, and position and number of defenders), in accordance with Law 12.
