Sanya: Qatar’s national beach handball team has secured a place in the final of the Asian Beach Games – Sanya 2026 after a well-deserved 2–0 victory over Bahrain (13–8, 20–18) in Tuesday’s semi-final clash.
Qatar dominated the first set, finishing 13–8 ahead. The second set was more competitive, with both teams exchanging points until they were tied at 18–18 in the closing minutes. Abdulrazzaq Murad sealed the win with a decisive goal less than 30 seconds before the end.
Qatar will face Iran in the final, scheduled for 4:00 PM (Doha time) on Wednesday. Iran advanced after defeating Thailand in the other semi-final. The highly anticipated match will see Qatar aiming to continue their strong form and secure the gold medal.
Qatar has enjoyed a perfect run in the event, topping their group with wins over Pakistan, Oman, Bangladesh, Mongolia, Jordan, Thailand, and the Maldives, confirming their readiness to compete for top honors.
Salem Al-Dosari, manager of the national beach handball team, congratulated the Qatar Handball Federation president, players, and technical staff on reaching the final. He emphasized that the achievement came after a series of tough matches, highlighting the team’s ability to handle different game scenarios.
He added that the final presents a different challenge, noting that beach handball matches are often decided by fine margins, stressing the need for focus and consistency.
Team captain Moatasem Abdelwahid said the match against Bahrain was highly competitive, with both teams exchanging attacks, but Qatar capitalized better on key moments. He praised the team’s composure under pressure and emphasized the importance of maintaining the same spirit in the final.
