Qatar’s first beach volleyball team, consisting of Sherif Younis and Ahmed Tijjan, advanced to the quarter-finals after defeating Qatar’s second team (Mohammed Ehab and Mousa Al Khair) 2-0 (21-10, 21-16) in an all-Qatar Round of 16 match on Sunday.
The encounter reflected the strong performances of both teams throughout the tournament, with the first team asserting its superiority thanks to greater experience and team chemistry.
In the quarter-finals on Monday, the first team will face China, who advanced after defeating Thailand. Qatar aims to maintain its winning momentum and progress further in the tournament.
The first team topped Group B with a perfect record, beating Maldives and Uzbekistan before closing the group stage with a 2-1 win over Iran (21-11, 21-23, 15-13).
Meanwhile, the second team reached the Round of 16 after finishing second in its group, with wins over Saudi Arabia and Macau, before losing to China and then facing the first team.
Qatar is participating in beach volleyball with four teams—two men’s and two women’s—highlighting the growth and development of the sport.
Team official Mohammed Anbar Al Nasser said the qualification reflects the outstanding level shown by Sherif and Tijjan, expressing confidence in their ability to compete for the gold medal.
