CAIRO : Mohamed Salah will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a hamstring injury, Egypt national team director Ibrahim Hassan said on Saturday.
The Liverpool forward picked up the injury during his side’s 3-1 Premier League win over Crystal Palace.
“He has suffered a hamstring tear and will require four weeks of treatment,” Hassan told Reuters, adding that Salah has effectively played his last game of the campaign.
Liverpool have not issued an official update on the 33-year-old’s condition.
Salah is set to miss Liverpool’s remaining fixtures, including matches against Manchester United, Chelsea, Aston Villa and Brentford.
One of Liverpool’s most prolific players, Salah is the club’s third-highest scorer of all time and has registered 12 goals and nine assists across all competitions this season.
Hassan said the forward is expected to recover in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Egypt will face Belgium, New Zealand and Iran in Group G.
Salah will be aiming to arrive fully fit for the tournament in North America and avoid a repeat of 2018, when a shoulder injury sustained in the UEFA Champions League final limited his impact as Egypt exited in the group stage.
