BERLIN : Bayern Munich reached the DFB-Pokal final with a 2-0 victory over hosts Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday.
Harry Kane opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, drilling home from close range for his seventh goal of the competition, before Luis Diaz sealed the win deep into stoppage time.
“It was a top performance from start to finish,” Kane said. “We pressed them and won the ball high. We should have scored more goals and decided the game earlier.”
Bayern dominated the first half, registering nine shots to none from Leverkusen, and Kane came close again before the break with a powerful effort that narrowly missed the target.
Leverkusen improved after halftime, with Nathan Tella forcing a save from Manuel Neuer, but the visitors remained in control.
Diaz wrapped up the result in stoppage time to send Bayern through to the final, where they will face the winner of the other semi-final between VfB Stuttgart and Freiburg.
Bayern, who last won the cup in the 2019-20 season, are aiming to reclaim the trophy, with coach Vincent Kompany highlighting the significance of returning to the final.
