LONDON: Coventry City secured promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 25 years after a 1-1 draw away at Blackburn Rovers.
Managed by former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard, Coventry needed just a point to guarantee promotion with three matches remaining and achieved it thanks to a late equaliser from Bobby Thomas at Ewood Park.
Thomas headed home late on to cancel out Blackburn’s lead and ensure Coventry’s return to the top flight after a long absence.
Celebrations followed the final whistle, with players and around 7,500 travelling fans marking the achievement on the pitch and in the stands.
Coventry lead the Championship table with 86 points from 43 matches, 13 clear of third-placed Millwall.
Ipswich Town, Millwall, Southampton and Middlesbrough remain in contention for the second automatic promotion spot.
