DOHA: The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) has confirmed its participation in the Asian Beach Games to be held in Sanya, China, from April 22 to 30, 2026. Qatar will be represented by a delegation of 34 male and female athletes competing among 1,790 participants across 14 sports.

Seven Sports on Qatar’s Agenda
Deputy Head of the Administrative Delegation, Abdulla Al Abdulla, announced that Qatar will compete in seven disciplines: beach volleyball (men and women), basketball (men and women), beach handball, sailing, aquathlon, jiu-jitsu, and wrestling. He emphasized that this participation reflects QOC’s commitment to maintaining a strong presence in continental events and strengthening Qatar’s sporting profile in Asia.

Preparation and Medal Ambitions
Al Abdulla highlighted that Qatari teams have completed extensive preparations through structured training programs led by national federations in coordination with QOC. The delegation aims to deliver strong performances and contend for medals, particularly in beach handball and beach volleyball, alongside individual sports.

Focus on Development and Experience
He noted that the Games will feature top-level Asian athletes, posing significant challenges. Beyond results, Qatar aims to maximize technical development by exposing athletes to diverse competition and enhancing their readiness for future continental and international events.

Strong Track Record in Asian Beach Games
Qatar has maintained a consistent presence since the inaugural edition in Bali 2008. The nation secured its first gold medal in Haiyang 2012, followed by 12 medals in Phuket 2014 and 7 medals in Da Nang 2016, underlining steady progress.

Promotional Campaign Launched
Head of Team Qatar Media Delegation, Mohammed Al Zaidan, unveiled a promotional campaign titled “From the Shores of Doha to the Shores of Sanya.” The initiative will highlight Qatar’s coastal attractions, including Katara Beach, Old Doha Port, Lusail Marina, the Doha Corniche, The Pearl Island, and 974 Beach, while boosting fan engagement through dynamic digital content.

About the Games
The Asian Beach Games Sanya 2026 will feature competitions in 14 sports, including 3×3 basketball, aquatics, athletics, handball, volleyball, wrestling, sailing, and more.
