DHAKA : Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has been appointed the youngest head of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) after the National Sports Council (NSC) dissolved the governing body’s board following an investigation into its October elections.
An NSC committee found irregularities in the election process, sports director Mohammed Aminul Ahesan said on Tuesday.
“We have informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) that this board of directors was not formed in a proper manner, and is not able to complete its work properly,” Ahesan told reporters. “We think that the ICC will definitely uphold this decision.”
The previous board was led by Aminul Islam and had drawn attention after Bangladesh declined to travel to India for this year’s Twenty20 World Cup, citing safety concerns. Bangladesh were subsequently replaced by Scotland in the tournament.
Tamim, who represented Bangladesh in 391 matches across formats, will head an 11-member ad-hoc committee tasked with running the BCB.
Bangladesh are scheduled to host New Zealand in a series comprising three one-day internationals, three Twenty20 matches and two tests starting on April 17.
