Miami Gardens, FL, USA : Jannik Sinner defeated Jiri Lehecka 6-4 6-4 in a rain-delayed Miami Open final to complete a historic ‘Sunshine Double’ without dropping a set.

The Italian world number two was dominant on serve, winning 92% of his first-serve points and saving all three break points he faced, extending his streak of Masters 1000 matches without dropping a set to 17.

“We did a lot of work to be in this position, so I’m really, really happy,” Sinner said. “Making the Sunshine Double for the first time, it’s incredible. It’s something I would have never thought.”

The match was disrupted by multiple rain delays, including a 90-minute stoppage before the start and another early in the second set. Sinner stayed relaxed during the interruptions, even keeping loose by juggling a soccer ball with his team.

Sinner broke early in the opening set and relied on his powerful serve to close it out comfortably. In the second, Lehecka—playing his first Masters 1000 final—showed resilience, saving several break points and briefly taking the lead.

However, Sinner seized control late, converting his sixth break point of the set to go 5-4 ahead before serving out the match with authority.

The 22-year-old becomes the first man since Roger Federer in 2017 to win both Indian Wells and Miami in the same season. He joins an elite list that includes Novak Djokovic, Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras and Jim Courier.

By achieving the feat without dropping a set, Sinner sets a new benchmark in one of tennis’s most demanding back-to-back tournaments.
