AMSTERDAM: The Netherlands will take on Algeria in a pre-World Cup friendly in Rotterdam on June 3, the Dutch football association said on Monday, in what will serve as the team’s final match before departing for the tournament in the United States.
The fixture pits the Dutch against fellow World Cup finalists Algeria as part of their preparations for the global showpiece. After the Rotterdam encounter, the Netherlands are expected to play another warm-up match in the United States ahead of their opening Group F clash with Japan in Dallas on June 14.
The Dutch will also meet Tunisia in the group stage, with that match scheduled for June 25 in Kansas City. Tunisia are the second North African side in the Netherlands’ group.
Ronald Koeman’s side continue their build-up with two friendlies this month, hosting Norway in Amsterdam before facing Ecuador in Eindhoven.
The Netherlands will be seeking to fine-tune their squad and tactics in the coming weeks as they aim for a strong start in Group F.
