DOHA : Al Sharq newspaper’s team recorded an emphatic 4-1 victory over defending champions Al Arab in the 12th edition of the QNB Cup Ramadan tournament.
The match, held at the Al Arabi SC Hall, saw Al Sharq underline their title credentials with a dominant display against Al Arab, winners of the previous two editions.
Mohamed Shafiq, Saif Bou Qataya, Ahmed Ibrahim and Amr Mohsen scored for Al Sharq, while Hamza Wahman netted Al Arab’s only goal.
Earlier, Al Raya and Al Watan played out a 2-2 draw in a match affected by injuries and limited squad numbers. Emad El Din Mustafa and Hazem Desouki scored for Al Raya, while Adel Al Najjar struck twice for Al Watan.
Two matches are scheduled for Thursday at the Al Wakrah SC Hall. Al Sharq will face the Qatar News Agency (QNA) team at 3:20 p.m., with both sides level on three points, while Al Arab take on Al Watan at 4:00 p.m.
The QNB Cup, held for the 12th consecutive year, is organised with the support of the Qatar Football Association, Al Haider Holding Group, Ansar Gallery and Al Jazeera Perfumes.
Al Arab coach Emad Barqawi said his side would seek to recover from the defeat when they meet Al Watan, while Al Watan coach Jihad Al-Rabi described his team’s draw with Al Raya as a positive result ahead of their next fixture.
