DOHA : Qatari players delivered strong performances at the fourth Sheikh Saud bin Ahmed Al-Thani Ramadan Bowling Championship, currently under way in Doha.
Organised by the Qatar Bowling Federation, the tournament runs until March 7 and has attracted more than 100 male and female competitors from Qatar and abroad, enhancing the event’s competitive profile.
This year’s edition features three categories — under-16 juniors, men 50+ and the open men’s division — offering opportunities across age groups.
In the open men’s preliminary round, Qatari bowlers dominated the standings. Mousa Brshashi led with 2,198 points, followed by Abdullah Hassan Ali on 2,170 and Hamad Al Khouri on 2,166.
Mohamed Jamal topped the 50+ category with 2,081 points, ahead of Abdulmalik Malik (1,991), while Filipino bowler Romel Ferran placed third with 1,963. Competitors from Jordan, Malaysia, the Philippines and Qatar featured prominently in the remaining positions.
In the junior division, Mosaed Al Murikhi claimed first place with 2,130 points from three attempts. Palestinian bowler Hamad Siyam finished second on 1,901, with Qatar’s Talal Abdullah third on 1,750.
The top eight players in each category advanced to the finals, with daily prizes awarded to the highest-scoring performers — all claimed by Qatari athletes so far.
The federation has allocated prize money totalling 142,000 Qatari riyals ($39,000). The open division winner will receive 20,000 riyals, with prizes distributed down to 28th place. The 50+ winner earns 5,000 riyals, while the junior champion will collect 4,500.
The championship, held during the holy month of Ramadan, aims to promote bowling within the community and nurture emerging talent, while commemorating the legacy of the late Sheikh Saud bin Ahmed Al-Thani, former chairman of the federation.
With broad participation and a competitive field, the event continues to strengthen its standing as one of Qatar’s leading Ramadan sporting occasions.
