DOHA : Al Wakrah SC will host reigning champions Al Sadd SC on Sunday in a crucial 16th-round encounter of the Doha Bank Stars League at Saud bin Abdulrahman Stadium.
The match carries significant weight for both sides as the season enters a decisive phase.
Al Wakrah, known as Al-Nawakhda, sit seventh in the standings with 22 points and remain three points adrift of the top four. With the campaign entering its final stretch, Sunday’s fixture could represent their last realistic opportunity to keep alive hopes of a top-four finish.
League leaders Al Sadd, meanwhile, know that anything less than victory could jeopardise their position at the summit. The title holders moved to the top in the previous round after defeating then-leaders Al Gharafa and have 32 points, five clear of their nearest challengers.
Al Sadd will be determined to maintain momentum as they seek to defend their crown, with the margin for error narrowing in the closing rounds.
The match will be officiated by referee Abdullah Al-Athba, assisted by Youssef Aref and Abdulmajid Al-Karbi. Mohammed Baraha will serve as fourth official, with Khamis Al-Marri overseeing VAR duties alongside assistant VAR Ramzan Al-Nuaimi.
