BAGHDAD: Al-Duhail suffered a 3-2 defeat to Iraqi hosts Al-Shorta at Al-Zawraa Stadium in the eighth and final round of the league stage of the AFC Champions League Elite.
Polish striker Krzysztof Piątek put Al-Duhail ahead in the 10th minute before French midfielder Benjamin Bourigeaud doubled the lead in stoppage time at the end of the first half.
Al-Shorta hit back after the break, with Senegalese forward Boli Junior scoring twice in quick succession in the 57th and 58th minutes. Bassam Shaker had earlier pulled one back in the 19th minute.
The result leaves Al-Duhail seventh on eight points, with qualification for the round of 16 dependent on the outcomes of other matches, including Al-Sadd against Al-Ittihad and Al-Gharafa versus Tractor SC.
Already eliminated, Al-Shorta claimed their first win of the campaign to finish on five points in 11th place.
