DOHA : Qatari shooter Mohammed Al Rumaihi clinched gold in the men’s trap event at the third HH The Amir Grand Prix Shotgun Championship, which concluded at the Lusail Shooting Complex after seven days of competition.

The tournament drew 315 shooters from 38 countries, with 198 competing in the trap discipline across men’s, women’s, youth and junior categories.

Al Rumaihi sealed victory after a tense final against Turkiye’s Yavuz Ilnam. The pair were tied on 26 targets, forcing a shoot-off that the Qatari won by a single hit. Ilnam settled for silver, while France’s Antoine Desar claimed bronze with 20 targets.

In the women’s trap, Italy’s Alessia Iezzi defeated Australia’s Laetisha Scanlan in a shoot-off to take gold, while San Marino’s Alessandra Perilli secured bronze.

Australia’s Benjamin De Pedro won the youth title and Kazakhstan’s Yelium Zhabagieva topped the junior women’s event. Total prize money for the skeet and trap competitions amounted to $122,000.

Qatar Shooting and Archery Federation president Dr Mishaal Ibrahim Al Nasr hailed Al Rumaihi’s achievement as a testament to the federation’s strategic planning and continued backing of the sport.

He dedicated the success to the country’s leadership and to Qatar Olympic Committee president Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, citing the strong support provided to Qatari sport and shooting in particular.

Al Nasr added that the result underlined the federation’s long-term strategy to strengthen Qatar’s presence on the international stage and reflected steady progress towards global podium finishes.
