DOHA – Al Shamal face Qatar SC on Thursday evening at Hamad Al Kabir Stadium in a highly anticipated round-of-16 clash in the 2026 Emir Cup.
The contest appears finely balanced, although Al Shamal hold a slight edge on current form, having impressed in this season’s Doha Bank Stars League title race.
Al Shamal sit third in the standings with 28 points after 15 rounds, three behind second-placed Al Gharafa and leaders Al Sadd.
They will be hoping their strong league form carries into the country’s most prestigious knockout competition as they aim for a deep run — and potentially a first Emir Cup title in the club’s history.
Qatar SC, meanwhile, are seventh in the league with 21 points. The side, known as Al-Qatrawi, briefly topped the standings earlier in the campaign alongside Al Shamal before slipping down the table.
With both teams eyeing silverware, Thursday’s encounter promises to be a closely fought battle for a place in the quarter-finals.
