DOHA – Al-Duhail advanced to the quarter-finals of the Emir Cup with a 2-0 victory over Al-Waab in their round-of-16 clash at Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium.
Algerian forward Adel Boulbina opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 28th minute, while Poland striker Krzysztof Piątek sealed the win with a late strike in the 86th.
Al-Waab threatened early when Cesar Gaye broke into the box and tested Al-Duhail goalkeeper Salah Zakaria in the seventh minute, but the shot was saved.
Al-Duhail took control midway through the first half after being awarded a penalty for a foul by Mubarak Shanan inside the area. Boulbina converted confidently to give his side the lead heading into the break.
Al-Waab came close to levelling early in the second half when Jordanian forward Bahaa Faisal unleashed a powerful effort that struck the crossbar in the 52nd minute.
Al-Duhail responded three minutes later through Boulbina, whose strong shot was denied by goalkeeper Mohammed Montaser.
Piątek then put the result beyond doubt four minutes from time, driving into the box and finishing to the right of the goalkeeper to secure Al-Duhail’s passage to the last eight.
