DOHA: Qatari clubs resume their bid to stay alive in continental competition when AFC Champions League action for West Asian elite clubs continues over the next two days.
Al Duhail host Sharjah of the United Arab Emirates on Monday in a crucial encounter, with both sides level on seven points. Al Duhail sit seventh in the standings, ahead of Sharjah in eighth on goal difference, and will be targeting a win to strengthen their qualification hopes.
Al Sadd, meanwhile, welcome Iran’s Tractor Sazi to Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium on Tuesday. The Doha-based side are 10th in the table with nine points and need victory to keep their slim hopes alive as they chase a top-eight finish that would secure direct qualification to the round of 16 from the West Group.
Al Gharafa face a tough away assignment against Saudi Arabia’s Al Ittihad, also needing a positive result to remain in contention. Al Gharafa are ninth with six points, while Al Ittihad sit sixth on nine points.
Qatar’s Al Ahli turn their focus to the AFC Champions League 2 as the competition enters the knockout phase. On Wednesday, they host Iran’s Foolad Sepahan, runners-up in the 2024-25 Iranian league, at Al Thumama Stadium in Doha, aiming for a strong start to the decisive stage of the tournament.
