Sri Lanka : The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday approved pacer Pramod Madushan as a replacement for Sri Lanka fast bowler Eshan Malinga, who was ruled out of the Twenty20 World Cup on home soil after dislocating his shoulder against England last week.
Malinga, 25, sustained the injury during his second over in Sunday’s match in Kandy and was unable to continue as England went on to win the 20-over contest by six wickets to clinch the series.
“The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 has approved Pramod Madushan as a replacement for Eshan Malinga in the Sri Lanka squad,” the ICC said in a statement.
Madushan, who has taken 12 wickets in eight T20 internationals, returns to the format for the first time since Sri Lanka’s bilateral series in New Zealand in 2023.
Sri Lanka, placed in Group B, will open their campaign against Ireland in Colombo on February 8.
