RIYADH : Al-Hilal have completed the signing of French striker Karim Benzema, a move supporters hope will help reshape the Saudi Pro League title race and strengthen the club’s push for domestic and continental honours.
The club confirmed the capture of the former Ballon d’Or winner from rivals Al-Ittihad on a contract running for one and a half years, making him one of the most high-profile forwards in the league.
The transfer is seen as a significant boost for Al-Hilal, bolstering their attacking options and reinforcing their ambitions to compete for major trophies, while also raising the overall level of competition within the Saudi Pro League.
Negotiations with Benzema and his representatives were concluded successfully, with Italian coach Simone Inzaghi set to integrate the veteran striker into his project at the club.
Earlier, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that all terms had been agreed, adding that Benzema had accepted Al-Hilal’s conditions before finalising the move.
The signing adds further star power to the Saudi league as clubs continue to attract elite players with proven experience at the highest level.
