DOHA: Al-Duhail and Al-Rayyan played out a 1-1 draw at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium on Friday in the 14th round of the Doha Bank Stars League.
Al-Duhail took an early lead through Algerian striker Adel Boulbina in the 13th minute, before Al-Rayyan’s Brazilian forward Wesley equalised in the 34th.
The result lifted Al-Duhail to 20 points, leaving them sixth in the standings, while Al-Rayyan moved to 24 points in fourth place.
Al-Duhail started brightly and dominated the early exchanges, pressing Al-Rayyan in search of an opening goal. Their pressure paid off when French midfielder Benjamin Bourigeaud slipped a pass into the penalty area, allowing Boulbina to finish confidently from close range.
The hosts came close to doubling their advantage in the 32nd minute when Bourigeaud weaved past several defenders and unleashed a powerful shot, but Al-Rayyan goalkeeper Mahmoud Abu Nada produced a fine save to keep his side in the contest.
Al-Rayyan found their equaliser shortly afterwards as Wesley collected the ball on the edge of the area and fired a strong effort past goalkeeper Salah Zakaria into the right corner.Both sides pushed forward after the break in search of a winning goal, but clear-cut chances were scarce and neither team could break the deadlock, with the match ending level.
