DOHA: His Excellency Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, President of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and First Vice President of FIFA, said the election of His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani as President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) reflects the strong confidence of the Asian sports community in his leadership and vision.
In a statement on Monday, Sheikh Salman said Sheikh Joaan’s presidency would have a direct and positive impact on the future of sport in Asia by strengthening cooperation among continental sports bodies, supporting development and sustainability pathways, and reinforcing Olympic values across federations and national committees.
Sheikh Salman congratulated Sheikh Joaan, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, on his election, stressing that the next phase requires leadership with experience, strategic vision and an institutional approach. He said Sheikh Joaan’s administrative capabilities and extensive experience position him well to lead the OCA towards a future that meets the aspirations of the Asian sporting family.
The AFC President concluded by wishing Sheikh Joaan success in his new role and reaffirmed the support of the Asian football community for all efforts aimed at advancing sport in Asia and serving the continent’s athletes.
