Abu Dhabi : Al-Duhail defender Sultan Al-Buraik said his side delivered a strong and competitive performance despite losing narrowly to hosts Al-Wahda in the Challenge Shield match of the Qatari-Emirati Super Cup at Al Nahyan Stadium.
Al-Duhail were beaten by a single goal, decided by a penalty, after being reduced to 10 men early in the match.
“The players did not fall short and gave everything to try to win,” Al-Buraik said after the game. “We created many chances despite the numerical disadvantage following the early dismissal.”
He added that Al-Duhail could have secured a better result given their overall performance, describing the defeat as disappointing after a match decided by a spot kick.
Al-Buraik said the team would now turn its focus to upcoming fixtures across all competitions, stressing the need to move on from the loss and look ahead.
