DOHA: Diamond LeagueWorld and European champion Mondo Duplantis will headline the pole vault event at the Doha leg of the Diamond League, the series announced on its official website on Tuesday.
The Swedish star is set to open his 2026 season in Doha, the opening round of the Diamond League, adding major prestige to what is expected to be one of the strongest meetings of the year. The organisers described Duplantis as a uniquely gifted athlete whose distinctive style continues to inspire new generations of pole vaulters.
Duplantis’s appearance in Doha will mark the start of his bid to defend his status as the world’s top pole vaulter and Diamond Trophy holder, following a dominant 2025 season in which he broke the meeting record and consistently pushed his own limits from one competition to the next.
At 26, Duplantis is widely regarded as the greatest pole vaulter in history. He is a two-time Olympic gold medallist, a six-time world champion at senior level—winning three outdoor and three indoor titles—and a three-time consecutive European outdoor champion. He has also claimed five straight Diamond League titles between 2021 and 2025.
Since 2020, Duplantis has rewritten the world record multiple times, most recently clearing 6.30 metres at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo last September, where he once again stood atop the podium.
