Qatari shooters claim gold, silver at Asian Shotgun Championship

DOHA: Qatari shooters delivered a standout performance on Wednesday, capturing two medals — a gold and a silver — and setting new Asian and world records in the skeet competition for the youth category on the third day of the Asian Shotgun Championship Doha 2026, currently underway at the Lusail Shooting Complex.

The championship, which runs until January 21, features 196 shooters from 17 countries and has already produced intense and highly competitive action. Wednesday’s schedule included qualifying rounds and finals in the skeet events across individual youth and junior team categories.

In the junior individual skeet competition, Qatari shooter Mutaib Al Marri claimed the gold medal in emphatic fashion, setting a new Asian and world record after scoring an impressive 32 out of 36 targets in the final round. His performance underlined his status as one of the tournament’s standout talents.Qatar’s success continued in the youth skeet team event, where the trio of Mutaib Al Marri, Jassim Mohammed Al Yafai, and Abdulrahman Ahmed Al Harmi secured the silver medal.

The team finished second overall with a total of 304 points in the final round, extending Qatar’s strong showing on home soil.At the medal ceremony, the winners were crowned by President of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Federation Dr. Meshaal Ibrahim Al Nasr and President of the Asian Shooting Federation Sheikh Salman Al Hamoud Al-Sabah.

The championship resumes on Thursday with the fifth qualifying round across all four categories. The top eight shooters from each category will advance to the finals, where medals will be decided.Sheikh Salman Al Hamoud Al-Sabah praised the strong start to the competition and commended Doha’s organization of the 2026 Asian Shotgun Championship, congratulating the Qatar Shooting Federation, led by Dr. Meshaal Ibrahim Al Nasr, on the notable achievements.
