DOHA: Al Arabi SC returned to the top of the General Basketball League standings after securing a commanding 102–83 victory over Qatar SC on Monday. The result saw Al Arabi move to 22 points from 12 matches, edging one point clear of second-placed Al Rayyan, who have 21 points from 11 games.
The win underlined Al Arabi’s title credentials as they controlled the contest with disciplined defence and sharp offensive execution. Bahrain international Mustafa Hussein starred for the league leaders, pouring in 23 points with impressive shooting from all areas of the court while also creating scoring chances for his teammates to steer his side to a convincing success.
Qatar SC, meanwhile, remained on 14 points, a position that adds extra importance to the upcoming rounds as the race for places intensifies. Asem Walid A Shalfawi led Qatar SC’s resistance with 19 points, but his efforts were blunted by Al Arabi’s sustained defensive pressure, which proved decisive over the course of the game.
