Doha – December 30, 2025:
The competitions of the General Basketball League for the 2025-2026 season continue amid an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation, as the teams prepare to play decisive rounds that will determine the course of the competition for the season’s title. Strong matches stand out in this context, taking place at the Al Rayyan Hall on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, where Al Ahli Club meets Qatar Club at exactly 7:00 PM, followed by an anticipated clash between Al Sadd and Al Khor at 9:00 PM, as part of the matches in the second segment of the league.
The following day, Thursday, January 1, 2026, two matches will be held at the Al Gharafa Hall, bringing together Al Arabi with Al Shamal at 6:00 PM, then Al Gharafa with Al Wakrah at 8:00 PM, in confrontations that carry the character of decisiveness and challenge.
The current season witnesses the implementation of an innovative competitive system known as “Play-In”, designed specifically to enhance competition and add more excitement to the league. This system includes the teams occupying positions from third to sixth in the standings.
In this stage, the third-placed team meets the fourth in a direct confrontation, where the winner qualifies for the semi-finals to face the league runner-up.
At the same time, the fifth-placed team faces the sixth in an elimination match, where the loser is eliminated from the competition, while the winner continues their journey by facing the loser of the third and fourth match in a decisive game to determine the second team qualifying for the semi-finals.
As for the semi-final and “play-off” matches, they are played in a best-of-three format, with the aim of determining the two teams qualifying for the final match that will bring them together to crown the league champion.
This system is considered a qualitative addition that enhances competitiveness and makes every match in the decisive stages more impactful and intense.
Regarding the teams’ standings, fierce competition appears among the clubs, with Al Rayyan topping the table with 19 points from 10 matches, leading by a one-point margin over the runner-up Al Arabi, who has collected 18 points, while Al Ahli comes in third place with 16 points. Al Shamal occupies fourth place with 15 points, tied with Al Sadd in fifth place, who have played only 9 matches.
Al Wakrah comes in sixth place with the same points tally, while Qatar Club is in seventh place with 12 points, tied with Al Gharafa in eighth place with the same points.
Al Khor occupies ninth place with 10 points from 9 matches, in a ranking that reflects the close levels of the teams and the equality of competition.
