MUSCAT: Qatari shooters continued their impressive run at the Arab Pistol and Rifle Championship in Muscat on Wednesday, claiming one gold and two bronze medals on the fifth day of competition. The championship, featuring 141 male and female shooters from 14 countries, concludes this Friday in the Omani capital.
Qatar’s medals came in the 25-meter pistol event, where the women’s team of Salma Almas, Duaa Rahmatullah and Aisha Al Abdullah clinched the gold medal with a strong performance. The men’s team, comprising Mohammed Abdulmohsen, Abdullah Al Obaidli and Mohammed Al Yafai, secured the bronze medal. Salma Almas added to Qatar’s tally by winning bronze in the women’s individual event.
With these results, Qatar’s total medal haul at the championship has risen to 11 — two gold, three silver and six bronze — underlining the team’s consistency across events.
The Qatari delegation includes 17 shooters across men’s, women’s and junior categories in both rifle and pistol disciplines. The team is led by Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Aji, Executive Director of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Federation and Head of its Rifle and Pistol Department.
Competition resumes on Thursday with the 25-meter center-fire pistol events for men, women and teams, as Qatari shooters aim to extend their podium success and finish the championship on a high note.
