DOHA: Qatar’s national football team has dropped three places to 54th in the latest FIFA world rankings, placing fifth among Arab nations and sixth in Asia with 1,454.96 points. The decline follows a disappointing campaign at the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025, where the hosts exited at the group stage after defeats to Palestine and Tunisia and a draw against Syria.
Despite the recent setback, there was a major milestone for Qatari football as the team secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup through the Asian playoff. It marks Qatar’s first-ever World Cup qualification via the competitive qualifiers, having previously featured in the 2022 edition as tournament hosts.
At the top of the global standings, Spain retained first place, followed by Argentina and France, with no changes among the top 33 teams. Morocco continue to lead the Arab nations, sitting 11th worldwide after their Arab Cup triumph, while Japan remain Asia’s highest-ranked side in 18th position.
Elsewhere among Arab teams, Algeria are ranked 34th, Egypt 35th, and Tunisia 41st, underlining the competitive landscape Qatar must navigate as it looks to regain momentum ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
