DOHA: Qatar’s Mohammed bin Yousef Al-Mana has been re-elected president of the Arab Weightlifting Federation for a new four-year term running from 2025 to 2029, the federation said on Saturday.
The decision was taken by acclamation during an executive board meeting held on the sidelines of combined weightlifting championships currently taking place in Doha, including the Qatar International Cup, the Arab Weightlifting Championship and the West Asia Championship.
The federation said the unanimous vote reflected confidence in the leadership’s performance during the previous term, citing progress in technical development, governance and the strengthening of Arab representation in international weightlifting bodies.
Al-Mana also holds several senior positions in global sport, including first vice president of the Qatar Olympic Committee, vice president of the International Weightlifting Federation and president of the Qatari, Asian and Afro-Asian weightlifting federations.
The new term will see the introduction of the role of first vice president of the Arab Weightlifting Federation. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Harbi, president of the Saudi Weightlifting Federation, was appointed to the position.
Talal Al-Jassar of Kuwait and Abdullah Al-Jarmal of Yemen were named vice presidents representing Asia, while Mohamed Abdel Maqsoud of Egypt and Saeedi Kamal of Algeria will serve as vice presidents representing Africa
