DOHA: World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been named the WTA Player of the Year for the second consecutive season after maintaining her grip on the top ranking throughout a dominant 2025 campaign, the women’s tennis governing body announced on Monday.
The Belarusian capped a remarkable year by successfully defending her U.S. Open title and leading the tour in both match wins and titles. Sabalenka reached nine finals, finishing runner-up at the Australian Open and Roland Garros, while also advancing to the semi-finals at Wimbledon. She claimed four trophies overall and posted an impressive 63 victories during the season.
By retaining the year-end world number one ranking for a second straight year, Sabalenka also set a new single-season prize money record, earning $15,008,519.
Meanwhile, American Amanda Anisimova was voted the WTA’s Most Improved Player. She enjoyed a breakthrough season, reaching five finals, winning the first two WTA 1000 titles of her career in Doha and Beijing, and advancing to her maiden Grand Slam finals at both Wimbledon and the U.S. Open.
