LONDON: Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has acknowledged the criticism coming from the club’s former players, insisting that judgments are being made without “all the information” as his side endures a difficult spell in the Premier League.
United sit eighth in the table with just two wins from their last six matches, prompting outspoken criticism from ex-midfielder Paul Scholes, who claimed Amorim was not the right man for the job. Speaking ahead of Monday’s league clash with Bournemouth, Amorim admitted results were the core issue.
“Not winning is the problem,” Amorim said, accepting responsibility for the team’s underachievement. He conceded United should have more points this season and admitted he was not doing well enough as manager.
However, Amorim suggested former players often view the club through the lens of its dominant past. “They see Manchester United with the standards they lived here — always winning — so it’s hard for them to see the club in this situation,” he explained.
Scholes also questioned Amorim’s handling of academy graduate Kobbie Mainoo, who starred for England at Euro 2024 and scored in United’s FA Cup final victory over Manchester City. Despite the criticism, Amorim remained firm, stressing that improvement on the pitch is the only answer as United look to turn their season around.
