Mr. Mohammed bin Saad Al-Mogheseib, President of the Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF), held an expanded meeting with a delegation from the College of Sports Sciences at Qatar University, comprising Prof. Dr. Khaled Al-Bibi, Dean of the College, and Dr. Monem Ben Al-Arabi Al-Haddad, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, at the Federation’s headquarters.
The meeting reflects both parties’ keenness to strengthen cooperation channels between the Qatar Basketball Federation and Qatar University, with the aim of advancing the development of Qatari basketball at both technical and administrative levels.
During the meeting, Al-Mogheseib listened to a comprehensive presentation delivered by Prof. Dr. Khaled Walid Al-Bibi on the role of the College of Sports Sciences in serving Qatari sports. He praised the college’s academic and training efforts that contribute to qualifying national sports cadres.
The Federation President expressed his full welcome to the initiatives proposed by the university, stressing the Federation’s readiness to open its doors to academic experts holding master’s and doctoral degrees to work in coaching, research, and technical development.
For his part, Dr. Khaled Al-Bibi emphasized the importance of attracting students from the College of Sports Sciences and providing them with practical training opportunities within the Federation. He stated that this approach aligns with Qatar University’s vision, embodied by the College of Sports Sciences, to prepare qualified cadres capable of supporting major upcoming events, foremost among them the FIBA Basketball World Cup – Qatar 2027.
Al-Bibi noted that involving students in the sports work system gives them direct experience that refines their skills, while also providing the Federation with innovative young talent.
The Federation President and the academic delegation also discussed future cooperation prospects. It was agreed to hold regular meetings between the two sides as a prelude to signing a comprehensive cooperation protocol that includes joint training programs, research projects, and the development of technical and administrative cadres, all aimed at enhancing operational efficiency within the Federation and serving its future aspirations.
On this occasion, Mr. Mohammed bin Saad Al-Mogheseib affirmed that cooperation with Qatar University is part of a clear strategy adopted by the Federation, based on integrating academic expertise with practical sports experience to achieve sustainable development for Qatari basketball.
He said: “At the Qatar Basketball Federation, we believe that building the future of the game begins with investing in people. That is why we are keen to cooperate with national educational institutions, foremost among them Qatar University, which possesses the scientific and academic expertise capable of supporting our future plans and programs.”
Al-Mogheseib added: “We are approaching a major global event of great importance – the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup – and this requires comprehensive preparation of national cadres, both technically and administratively. The partnership with the College of Sports Sciences will be a fundamental pillar in this preparation.”
Both parties confirmed that the coming period will witness the implementation of qualitative initiatives, including coach development, support for applied research, and the launch of new training pathways within the Federation, stressing that joint work with the university represents added value to Qatari sports as a whole.
