DOHA: Palestine and Syria secured their places in the FIFA Arab Cup knockout stage after playing out a 0-0 draw in Al Rayyan. Both teams started the day, three points ahead of Qatar and Tunisia, meaning a draw was enough for each to advance. With few chances the match unfolded as a draw, and Palestine finished top of Group A on goal difference.
In the other game, Tunisia ended their campaign with a strong 3-0 victory over hosts Qatar, though the win did not change their fate. Tunisia struck first when Seifeddine Jaziri’s shot was saved and fell kindly to Mohamed Ben Romdhane, who converted the rebound.
Early in the second half, Tunisia doubled their lead. Ben Romdhane delivered a corner that captain Ferjani Sassi flicked on, allowing Yassine Meriah to head in at the back post. Even after being reduced to ten players, Tunisia remained in control and added to Qatar’s frustration, as the hosts finished the group with just one point.
Despite Tunisia’s convincing win, Syria’s draw with Palestine meant both teams advanced, leaving Tunisia and Qatar eliminated from Group A.
