HYDERABAD,India: Abhishek Sharma produced one of the most explosive knocks in Indian domestic cricket history, hammering 148 off just 52 balls to lead Punjab to a colossal 310-5 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on Sunday — the fourth-highest total ever recorded in T20s.
Facing a seasoned Bengal attack featuring Mohammed Shami and Akash Deep, the Punjab captain unleashed a stunning assault from ball one. Opening the innings after winning the toss, he reached his fifty in just 12 balls — the joint-second fastest by an Indian in the format — smashing five sixes and five fours along the way.
Sharma’s hundred arrived in 32 balls, making it the joint-third quickest T20 century by an Indian. His final tally included 16 sixes and eight fours before Akash Deep finally ended the carnage. The innings also pushed his tally of sixes in 2025 to 91, surpassing his own record of 87 from last year — now the highest by any Indian in a calendar year.
Nearly a year after his 28-ball hundred against Meghalaya, Sharma once again showcased his remarkable hitting power, strengthening his case for selection in India’s squad for next year’s T20 World Cup.
