GUWAHATI: South Africa took firm control of the second Test on Monday as Marco Jansen’s fiery six-wicket haul and Simon Harmer’s disciplined spell powered them to dismiss India for 201 in their first innings. With a commanding 288-run lead, the visitors tightened their hold further by reaching 26 for no loss at stumps on Day 3.
Openers Ryan Rickelton (13) and Aiden Markram (12) negotiated eight overs in the fading light, extending South Africa’s overall advantage to a formidable 314 runs with two days still remaining.
Earlier, India struggled to counter South Africa’s relentless bowling. Jansen’s 6-for broke the back of the Indian innings, while Harmer complemented him superbly with three wickets, ensuring no partnership threatened the visitors’ dominance.
Having posted a strong 489 in their first innings, the Proteas now find themselves in a position of complete authority. With a 1-0 lead after their 30-run victory in Kolkata, South Africa look well on course to press for a series-clinching win.
