Doha: Nasser Saleh Al-Attiyah and co-driver Fabian Lurquin produced a composed drive in their Taurus T3 Max to secure fourth overall and claim victory in the Challenger category at the Qatar International Baja.
Miroslav Zapletal’s fifth-place finish and valuable points for second in the FIA World Baja Cup ensure that the battle for the Drivers’ Championship podium will go down to the final round in Dubai in two weeks.
Qatari contenders Nouef Al-Sowaidi and Khalifa Saleh Al-Attiyah impressed in the regional Baja Cup, finishing sixth and 11th overall, earning second and third in the FIA Middle East Baja Cup points, respectively.
Nasser Racing Team’s Sergei Remennik extended his lead over Khalid Al-Jafla in the Challenger title race after finishing seventh, while Lionel and Lucie Baud took eighth and Ronan Chabot completed the top 10.
Promising rookie Mohammed Al-Marri stole the spotlight in the SSV class, guiding his Can-Am Maverick R to ninth overall and first in class alongside navigator Szymon Gospodarczyk. He finished ahead of Saudi’s Maha Al-Hameli and Van den Brink, though Oman’s Hamed Al-Wahaibi won the day’s stage. Italy’s Amerigo Ventura, meanwhile, saw his challenge fade after rear differential damage.
