PARIS: Jannik Sinner powered his way back to the summit of men’s tennis after capturing his first Rolex Paris Masters title on Sunday, defeating Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-4, 7-6 (4) in a high-quality final.
The Italian star, who briefly slipped to World No. 2 following his U.S. Open loss to Carlos Alcaraz, will now head into the Nitto ATP Finals (Nov. 9-16) once again as the leader of the ATP rankings.
Sinner’s performance on serve was nearly flawless. He won 40 of 44 points behind his first delivery — an extraordinary 90.9% success rate — and did not face a single break point throughout the match. He immediately set the tone by breaking the ninth-seeded Auger-Aliassime in the opening game and dropped just three points on serve during the 45-minute first set.
Auger-Aliassime, who will climb to No. 8 in the Race to Turin and is now well-positioned to qualify for the season-ending event, showed impressive resilience. He saved five break points in the second set to force a tiebreak but a single mini-break proved costly as Sinner maintained his focus to seal the title.
“It was a very difficult match, he was serving incredibly well,” Sinner said. “You have to use the small chances you have, and in the breaker it was just a small mini break, so I’m very happy with how I played there.”
With the victory, Sinner claimed his fifth ATP Masters 1000 trophy, stretched his indoor winning streak to 26 matches, and became the first player to win a Masters 1000 event without dropping a set since Alcaraz did so at Indian Wells in 2023.
A statement win — and the perfect launchpad into Turin as the season reaches its dramatic finale.
