Doha – October 29, 2025:
Mr. Saadoun Sabah Al-Kuwari, Secretary General of the Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) and Director of National Teams, is participating in the semi-annual General Assembly of the FIBA Asia, scheduled for Thursday, October 30, 2025, in Bengaluru, India. The meeting will feature broad representation from member national federations across the Asian Basketball Federation.
The assembly will address several critical topics shaping the future of Asian basketball, including updates to International Basketball Federation (FIBA) regulations and their implementation at the continental level. Discussions will also cover plans for developing upcoming Asian championships and strengthening collaboration among member federations to elevate the sport’s standards continent-wide.
Additional agenda items include reviews of administrative, technical, and financial reports from the previous period, as well as progress on FIBA Asia’s programs through the current cycle ending in 2027. Particular emphasis will be placed on initiatives supporting youth categories, referee and coach training, and qualification programs.
In a statement on the occasion, Mr. Saadoun Sabah Al-Kuwari, QBF Secretary General and Director of National Teams, said: “The Qatar Basketball Federation’s participation in this assembly reflects our ongoing commitment to positive engagement with both the Asian and international federations, contributing to the strategic direction of basketball in the region. This meeting serves as a key platform for discussing regulatory and technical developments, particularly those related to competition systems, continental tournament scheduling, and national team qualifications.”
Al-Kuwari added: “At the QBF, we prioritize staying abreast of all advancements in the global basketball ecosystem. These gatherings provide valuable opportunities to exchange expertise and forge effective partnerships with other federations. We reaffirm our dedication to applying the highest professional standards in managing the sport domestically, in line with Qatar’s vision for sports development and achieving continental and international excellence.”
He further emphasized that the QBF will continue its active role in supporting Asian efforts to advance the game, especially in national cadre development and regional tournament enhancement. Looking ahead, he noted increased inter-federation cooperation to bolster Asian basketball’s global standing—particularly as Qatar prepares to host the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup, marking the event’s debut in the Middle East and North Africa region.
The FIBA Asia semi-annual General Assembly stands as one of the federation’s premier administrative events, convening national federation representatives to deliberate on strategic issues that will define the sport’s trajectory in Asia through 2027.
