GUWAHATI,India: Hosts India made a strong start to their mixed team campaign at the BWF World Junior Championships 2025, registering a commanding victory over Nepal in Group H action at the National Centre of Excellence in Guwahati on Monday.
Seeded second, India fielded an experimental line-up but still cruised past their neighbours 45-18, 45-17 to open their Suhandinata Cup campaign in style. In the same group, Sri Lanka produced a stirring comeback to edge past the UAE 30-45, 45-34, 45-44 in a tense, see-saw battle.
Elsewhere, traditional powerhouses China, Indonesia, and South Korea — all among the pre-tournament favourites — eased to straight-set wins over their respective opponents to kick off their campaigns confidently.
The 2025 edition of the mixed team championship features a new best-of-three relay scoring format, with matches played to 45 points in total and each rally capped at nine points. Teams can also make player substitutions between sets, adding a new layer of tactical intrigue to the competition.
