LONDON: Slovenian superstar Tadej Pogacar capped a remarkable season by winning the European Championships road race on Sunday, adding yet another major triumph to his glittering 2025 campaign. Fresh from claiming his second consecutive world title, Pogacar delivered a breathtaking 75-kilometre solo attack to leave his rivals trailing in his wake.
Belgium’s Remco Evenepoel finished second, while Denmark’s Jonas Vingegaard was unable to complete the race in what was billed as a three-way showdown between cycling’s modern giants. The victory makes Pogacar the first rider to win both the Tour de France and the World Championships road race in back-to-back years — an unprecedented feat in the sport’s history.
“Every year I want to be a better version of myself,” Pogacar said. “Remco was really good and always chasing me, so I had to push really, really hard until the finish line. I’m happy it’s over — and happy with another title.”
The 26-year-old now turns his focus to the Giro di Lombardia later this month, where he will aim for a fifth straight victory to complete what could be one of the greatest seasons ever seen in modern cycling.
