DOHA (Qatar): Reigning champions Oman will be hoping to maintain their form at the 24th Gulf Cup following their 1-0 win over India at the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifications at home last week.

Oman, who arrived in Doha on Saturday night, will kick off their campaign on Wednesday against Bahrain.

The regional competition will start on Tuesday at the Khalifa International Stadium.

Asian champions and hosts Qatar will play Iraq in a Group A fixture. Yemen and UAE are the other teams in the group.

Oman are in Group B with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Kuwait, and play their first match against Bahrain at Duhail Stadium on Wednesday.

Oman, coached by Erwin Koeman, would definitely want to retain the regional title. If that is achieved, it will give them a big boost in their remaining FIFA World Cup matches.

The team has done pretty well only losing to Qatar in the Group E qualifiers, and are now a point behind the 2022 World Cup hosts.

The delegation is headed by Sheikh Salim bin Saeed Al Wahaibi, President of the Oman Football Association.

SQUAD: Fayez al-Rashidi, Ahmed al-Rawahi, Ibrahim al-Mukhaini, Mohamed Musallamy, Ali Busaidi, Abdulsalam Amer al-Mukhaini, Abdul Aziz al-Ghailani, Ahmed Khalifa al-Kaabi, Saad Suhail al-Mukhaini, Fahmi Saeed Durbin, Imran al-Haidi, Mohamed Faraj al-Rawahi, Al Mundhir Rabi al-Alawi, Harib al-Saadi, Zaher Sulaiman al-Aghbari, Mohamed Mubarak al-Ghafri, Ahmad Mubarak, Arshad al-Alawi, Mohsen Jawhar al-Khaldi, Yassin al-Shayadi, Mohsen Ghassani, Saeed al-Ruzaiqi, Abdul Aziz al-Muqbali
