QFA details latest developments in football calendar

DOHA (Qatar): The Qatar Football Association (QFA) held a discussion with all local media in order to clarify the vision for the next stage of the 2020/2021 football season.

The QFA also detailed the latest developments in the local football calendar in light of the Qatari clubs participating in the AFC Champions League competition.

The session also aimed to talk about the football season, whether by completing the league championship, as well as the semi-final and final rounds of the Amir’s Cup in addition to the proposal submitted to establish a refresher tournament to be held next April within the suspension period in the event of AFC Champions League matches taking place.

The meeting was attended by Hamad Al Mannai, Chairman of the QFA’s ‘s Competitions Committee, Abdullah Jaber Al-Sai, Director of the Competitions Department, Clubs and Players Affairs, Ahmed Khalil Abbasi, Vice Chairman of the Competitions Committee of QFA and Executive Director of Competitions and Football Development at the Qatar Stars League Foundation, in the presence of Khaled Mubarak Al Kuwari, Director of the Department Marketing of QFA.

The session was moderated by Ali Al Salat, head of the media department at QFA and the media officer for the national teams, in the presence of a group of representatives of various media.

During the session, addressed the AFC Champions League during the period from 14 to 30 April, in which Qatari clubs Al Duhail, Al Sadd and Al Rayyan will participate, in addition to Al Gharafa (in case it succeeds in defeating Uzbek side AGMK in the play-off match on April 7).

It was confirmed that the league will be completed on April 10 in the event that the AFC Champions League matches are held on time. It has also been announced that a new tournament will be organized in which the clubs of the QSL not participating in the AFC Champions League will play in addition to the clubs of the Second Division.

In this case, the two semi-final matches and the final match of the Amir Cup will be held in May and also the Playoff match between the Second Division runners-up with the second last team in QSL will be held during the period between the semi-finals and the Amir Cup final to determine which team will be feature in the QNB Stars League next season.
