DOHA (Qatar): Commercial Manager of Longines Arena at Al Shaqab Omar Al Mannai exuded confidence the Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT) and the Global Champions League (GCL) will inspire the Qatari youth to pursue the sport as a career option.

“LGCT and Commercial Bank CHI Al Shaqab definitely inspires young riders in Qatar after they watch the Olympians and world champions,” said Al Mannai, who is also the Event Director of LGCT and GCL.

Al Shaqab will host the best riders and horses during the first leg of the LGCT and GCL from March 4 to 6 during the five-star showjumping competition.

After the first stop in the Qatari capital, riders will battle it out in the other 16 of the series including the GC Prague Playoffs in November.

“We have much to look forward to in terms of Qatar’s continued growth and development in the equestrian world. Hosting the spectacular LGCT this weekend will definitely help,” said Al Mannai.

The former rider also said the local Qatar Equestrian Tour – Longines Hathab Series — now into its fourth season, is on the right track.

“TheLongines Hathab Series is growing in stature and popularity. It is targeted at producing the next generation of Qatari riders,” said Al Mannai. “We are seeing the youth buying horses thereby increasing horse-ownership. We’ve a lot of interest in our events and organizational capabilities from neighbouring countries.”

The tenth round of the Qatar Equestrian Tour – Longines Hathab Supported By Social & Sport Fund — took place during CHI AL SHAQAB, and Tour 11 will take place during LGCT.

Al Mannai said LGCT and Commercial Bank CHI Al Shaqab Presented by Longines support Qatar’s National Vision 2030.

“These events play a key role in promoting Qatar’s development in the area of equestrian sports. It also reflects a commitment from Qatar at a national level to support equestrianism. These events bear testament to Qatar’s position as an international sports destination, and showcases Al Shaqab as a premier venue,” he said. “International equestrian champions love competing at Al Shaqab’s world-class facilities, and are always keen to return for our events.”
