DOHA (Qatar): Al Wakrah continued their good form by beating Umm Salal 2-0 in Qatar Stars League third round match at the Al Duhail Stadium on Saturday.

Mohamed Benyettou scored in the 37th minute and assisted Khalid Muneer in scoring their second goal in the 52nd minute.

Al Wakrah have six points now. The Blue Wave had beaten reigning champions Al Duhail 1-0 in Week 2 after suffering a 1-2 loss to Al Ahli in the opening round.

Incidentally, Benyettou, one of the top scorers in last season’s QNB Stars League, was the scorer against Al Duhail.

Umm Salal remained on one point that they bagged from their goalless draw with Al Khor in Week 2. The Orange Fortress had lost 0-3 to Al Duhail in their opener.

Al Wakrah had done well last season by finishing in the sixth position.

The result was a blow to Umm Salal, who are determined not to leave it late this time, like they did last season when they managed to finish 10th after being on the brink of relegation.

Al Wakrah had more of the ball and the first goal came off a free-kick earned by Benyettou himself when he was fouled by Ayoub Azzi.

Khalid Muneer and Murad Naji were thwarted by Umm Salal goalkeeper Baba Malick while, at the other end, Mahmoud Al Mawas came close to equalising in the 41st minute, but fumbled in a one-on-one with goalkeeper Saoud Al Khater.

Khalid Muneer displayed excellent skills and ball control while scoring, evading the marking of Ismail Dahqani, with Benyettou providing him with the pass from the left.

Umm Salal soon replaced Yannick Sagbo with Ismail Mahmoud and he made two tries at the goal. (Source: QSL)
